It was doing pretty good back when it came out, but now it has 3.4 stars on play store. How come? I thought everyone liked it.

it didn’t go downhill; the devs just became ai shitheads because trust and safety head is a transphobe who got caught gooning to barely legal pornbots and banned juni, the creator of the bot that announced it. the devs also are buddy buddy with transphobic bigots like jesse singal and refuse to address the hate and harassment trans users face, despite trans users being the ones that made the site what it is.

    mu.social and northsky are great.

They just rolled out age verification in certain regions and it’s absolutely killed their score.

If you sort by most recent, instead of most relevant, you’ll see that the last like 50 or 60 reviews are all complaining on their age verification and how they implemented it.

The top two complaints on it is stability and that age verification.

at least here on the fedi that was never the case in my experience. right out the gate they were seen as an Embrace-Extend-Extinguish scheme that skipped step one by bypassing ActivityPub entirely, and since then their abysmal moderation and questionable sources of funding have only hampered that reputation further

They’ve been rolling it out for a while now. I’ve long since moved to Blacksky and there are also other third parties you could move to, but how soon before Bsky corporate starts getting hostile to those?

For the record, I’m also on Mastodon and have been active on there too lately, and my Mastodon presence actually predates my ATproto presence by a couple years.

Play store reviews are supposed to be for the Android app specifically, not the social network as a whole. Scrolling through them for 30s, I see mostly people having technical issues with the app and a small number of people complaining that you can’t be a nazi on there.

It makes me wonder, in the real world, do these people walk into parties and tell the host, “Hey man, great party and all, but if I can’t say the N-word, I’m outta here. So, what’s the deal? We cool?”

I don’t get why anyone would go on it. If your that aware of the federation why not the real thing.

Bluesky users don’t really care about federation tbh. For them, it’s the new twitter.

Then there’s network effect. Unlike Fediverse that attracts tech-savvy people for the most part, Bluesky has a very diverse userbase - and that userbase expands rapidly because of the aforementioned network effect.

I bet most of new bsky users are probably not even aware of Fedi alternatives like Mastodon.

Depends how you want to engage with the world. If you want to follow topics, the fediverse is great. If you want to follow people, you go where those people are, which still might be fediverse, but maybe not.

How come? I thought everyone liked it.

It was great until all the assholes moved over from Twitter, then it became just another twitter.

Lemmy will be great until it becomes popular.
