This was happening to me but then stopped and I’m not sure why.

I already deleted Reddit from my bookmarks and started adding -reddit.com into my Google searches. If there was an easy way to default -reddit.com into every search then I would do it.

Create a custom search provider. Search URL should be like:

      https://www.google.com/search?q=%25s+-ai+-reddit

You can just keep stringing the additional terms that you want excluded. I’m sure there’s some limit but you probably won’t hit it

Edit: apparently either lemmy or boost doesn’t like percent signs. Or URL encoding for that matter. The first part should be (percent character)s, and the plus signs should be (percent character)20. Though the + will probably work as-is depending on how your browser does things

If you’re on Firefox, download a user agent plug in and change your your browser to say it’s a tablet or windows pc. Problem solved. I already do this when their page locking pop-up started bothering me lol

If you’re on Android then use the Nora app from F-droid.

If you’ve got a home server then self-host Redlib. I run this through Gluetun VPN and it has the added benefit of not needing age verification and imgur working properly.

I will be shocked if that works forever. Maybe it’ll be five, maybe it’ll be ten years, but I bet they will kill that eventually.

The second old.reddit goes away, I have a feeling a lot of people will jump off reddit. Probably why they haven’t killed it yet

So much information will be lost by locking it behind an app. I hope lemmy is ok answering 20 years worth of reddit questions because we are going to need to document all that information somewhere.

Using an app means more bloat, more ads, more notifications, more forced engagement and more tracking. Since the site very clearly works through a mobile browser there is no technical reason for doing this. It is about forcing people to doom scroll this shit rather than check in from time to time.

“These users are already familiar with Reddit and we’ve seen that the experience is much better for them in the app. The app offers a more personalized experience and users can more easily find communities that match their interests.”

Lmao. The personalization is exactly what I don’t want, so fuck off. Also, it’s pretty easy to circumvent. I’m sure there’s multiple ways, but I just go to old reddit.
