You mention wanting to be “close to family”. Worth pointing out that I think this has a very different definition in the UK compared to USA. The online joke about 100 miles being a long way over here is completely true. My wife’s family lives about an hour and a half away, and whenever we visit it’s a “proper” planned trip. We pack bags and stay overnight. I think Americans would drive there and back in a day and think nothing of it.
