You can absolutely tell the truth while presenting a fiction. The only question here, which we will likely never know, is the extent to which this testimony is an objective, balanced recount of the circumstances.

Hard to lie and tell the truth at the same time.
Sorry that’s a fairly simple view of reality.
People convince others of fallacies without lying all the time.
