I love that game (so far) but haven’t had much to do with the fandom. It’s the type of property that has what become “comfort characters” for large numbers of people, and their conceptions of what these characters are like become really important to some, so I can easily imagine heated disputes.
I never thought “you know, Ralsei might be transgender,” but it wouldn’t blow my mind. I’m not sure he’s said anything so far that indicates that he’s preoccupied with gender much. (I’m saying “he” because I’m pretty sure the game does, while consistently using “they” for Kris.) But there are still a few chapters to go!
