Pope Leo XIV has appointed a man who had once entered the United States as an undocumented immigrant, hidden in the trunk of a car, as the new bishop of West Virginia.

The pope approved the resignation of Bishop Mark E Brennan of Wheeling-Charleston, West Virginia, and selected Bishop Evelio Menjivar-Ayala, 55, of Washington to take his place, reported OSV News.

Less than 1% of all priests are ever promoted to an open bishop position within their lifetime. Meaning most priests die as a priest.

It’s like saying “the only requirement for being a Cardinal is being a Bishop in good standing”

Or “The only requirement for being the pope is being a Cardinal in good standing”

First part of the video goes over all the process of becoming a Bishop. It’s not some random choice of the pope.

I really can’t understand why you take issue with that. There are few requirements to become president of the US for instance.

See my edit. Watch the video. “Just being a priest in good standing” is really oversimplifying it. Here is the link again for you. Start of the video is on how to become a bishop.

There is a difference between meeting minimum requirements and actually getting appointed. Get appointed as a Bishop is the entire discussion mate.
