Pope Leo XIV has appointed a man who had once entered the United States as an undocumented immigrant, hidden in the trunk of a car, as the new bishop of West Virginia.
The pope approved the resignation of Bishop Mark E Brennan of Wheeling-Charleston, West Virginia, and selected Bishop Evelio Menjivar-Ayala, 55, of Washington to take his place, reported OSV News.
The Pope giving the finger to tRump is pretty awesome.
Idk… I feel like it’s for show. Just another head on the monster. So as people fall from nationalism they go to religion and the same control of society is had.
More marketing to a demographic for power.
Pope-level trolling. Nice!
While it’s a nice little coincidence - the idea that the pope specifically chose someone that had a past of being an undocumented immigrant is kind of silly. The bishop was chosen because he fit the requirements for the role and was the most qualified (connected) within the Church. He was chosen for his pro immigrant stance maybe. But the framing of “he was chosen because he was once an illegal” just sounds like radlib or conservative clickbait. The pope isn’t making important decisions for the church based off of what will piss off Donald Trump.
You’re right but Leo also isn’t letting Trump keep him from making this appointment.
This is most likely the case. Although, it could also be an interesting move if it was provocative. The “correct” response is nothing, or to step up ICE activity in that bishop’s parishes. The bad move would be to directly target the bishop with ICE, which trump could be dumb enough to do if he saw this as a provocation. That kind of open attack would put the church and state more directly at odds, which the Pope could use to argue more conservative Catholics into supporting direct progressive action in opposition.
I dunno, it’s just fun to speculate. It’s very strange to me that the Catholic church isn’t aligned with the great evil this time around, an unexpected twist for this season of the Earth Show.
While many Catholics have joined the cult, most that I know have not. Not usually Bible bangers.
There are still many fish to fry with the catholic church, but having them on the good side gives me hope that we can still beat this.
The only real qualification is being a priest in good standing.
Less than 1% of all priests are ever promoted to an open bishop position within their lifetime. Meaning most priests die as a priest.
It’s like saying “the only requirement for being a Cardinal is being a Bishop in good standing”
Or “The only requirement for being the pope is being a Cardinal in good standing”

First part of the video goes over all the process of becoming a Bishop. It’s not some random choice of the pope.
I really can’t understand why you take issue with that. There are few requirements to become president of the US for instance.
See my edit. Watch the video. “Just being a priest in good standing” is really oversimplifying it. Here is the link again for you. Start of the video is on how to become a bishop.
There is a difference between meeting minimum requirements and actually getting appointed. Get appointed as a Bishop is the entire discussion mate.
Moments later after finding out, ice deports him to a non descript location
