So I went to a leggings store, explained to a lady working there whose build and waistline were very similar to mine that I want leggings that don’t sag to do sport and pilates, she looked at me and told me to try a size S, because that’s what she wears (I am usually an M). I tried several models at the store and bought 2 pairs of the snuggest model to compare at home: a size S and a size M.

To the women out here wearing leggings: do you actually size down as well? Because years ago I bought 2 pairs of men’s leggings, size M, my regular size, but they always sagged a bit right under the knees and behind my butt. Back then it never occurred to me to size down because I’ve always been an M and 2 years ago I knew absolutely nothing about leggings and it never occurred to me to try something made for women.

Back to today: The women’s size S is very snug, no sagging anywhere whatsoever, it’s like a second skin and my legs and butt look sculpted, more than with my men’s leggings. The lady at the store saw me try both sizes and said the S looks better on me, but couldn’t explain why. It’s a high waisted model (4 inches waist).

Material is very stretchy: 34% spandex, 66% polyester. I’ve never worn something so snug. I have complete freedom of movement to do my exercises but on both models the front side of the waist rolls down a bit when I lunge or bend, not completely, just the upper part of it. Does this happen because men’s abdominal muscles are bigger than women’s? Because men’s abdomens are simply larger than women’s? This doesn’t happen with my men’s leggings, but these are not so high waisted.

Is this blend a “weak” one? Other brands make a mix with 90% polyester and only 10% spandex. I don’t like to wear them because they feel constrictive and are really difficult to put on but I don’t know if they last longer due to less spandex.

Overall it looks like a good legging, what do you think? Is there any reason why I shouldn’t keep the size S? The size M only sags a bit behind my butt and a bit behind my knees afaik. Would there be any advantage to keeping the M instead?

Another question I have: how long do I have to jump to find out if the leggings slide down?

I’m gonna guess you’ll have to jump for quite a while but I’d suggest taking a video and posting it here so we can confirm.

I don’t size down, and it fits snugly like a second skin. It is not constrictive. It’s stretchy. That’s just what size you are. In women’s clothing, sizes aren’t correlated to a particular measurement. What any manufacturer designates as a small or medium changes from store to store and item to item. I don’t buy clothes online, only try them on in-store. Maybe like a size 0 who looks good in anything could buy online.
