If your SO thinks it’s a joke, then I think the very first thing you need to do is consider whether you’re 100% serious about it or not. And then you need to discuss it with them as a serious topic, so they know you’re not kidding. And then take it from there based on whatever they say, bearing in mind that they may be 100% against it.

Also agree with the comment about potentially having to move back closer to family in future, if health situations deteriorate.

None of which is to say don’t do it. But it’s a major life change, so lots to consider.

If you like long, human-made, interesting but also a bit leftfield documentaries, you could do a lot worse than Jon Bois.

Example - a four part series about the history of the telegraph, told through an extended metaphor involving the two main characters in 90s sitcom, Home Improvement.

Highly recommended, as is his other stuff. He has a couple of deep dives into the weird histories of the Atlanta Falcons and the Minnesota Vikings that are also well worth watching

Amazing. There’s a single frame in which you can actually see the missile just above the road. He was incredibly lucky.

That’s fair enough. Everyone likes different things I guess. All I can say is that when I came out of the cinema having seen TLJ, I was utterly disappointed. When I came out of seeing TRoS, I was bouncing like a kid on Christmas, it made me happy.

For some reason I just really enjoy it, whereas I hated TLJ and all the prequels. Others disagree, that’s cool too :-)

The Rise of Skywalker - it’s a big dumb action movie, with some silly plot holes, but I’ve never understood the degree to which people hate it (or profess to).

I thought it was great fun, and such a return to form after Last Jedi. Yes, some of the lines make your eyes roll (“somehow Palpatine returned,” in particular) but for me it recaptured the high energy, almost innocent, tone of the OT and TFA. No horribly out of place modern cynicism, no lightsaber tossing, no “can you hear me now” jokes.

And I thought the scene with Kylo Ren and Han was genuinely excellent, a really satisfying emotional payoff.

I really must try and see more animé. Other than Akira, I think I’ve only seen Ghost in the Shell (once), a bit of Neon Genesis Evangelion (which I wasn’t in the right head space to stick with for long), and a few Ghibli movies (Spirited Away, Totoro, and one other that I can’t recall).

Oh wow - I’m kind of jealous, even if it was a bad show. I’d love to have seen them in their early days!
