Are you american? It’s a very typically american worldview, dividing things into two opinion camps. Good vs evil etc. Beleive it or not, capitalism and communism both are not purely evil through-and-through. I live in a country where our blue (right wing) govt is seen as socialist in the US. I would NOT say the current govt are particularly socialist though. I guess it could be called “somethi g in between”, with tax funded healthcare+education, but still entrepreneurship that comes with the “capitalist” view of liberty/freedom to express your ideas even though the govt doesnt like it (famously illegal in communist states).

Having worked in a smartphone after market organisation, I can assure you that phones do break due to user error also in the first few years. Screen breaks, phones are dropped, charging ports are subject to user violence… while this is apparenrly not true for you, there are probably hundreds of thousand of fairphone users, so I think their spare parts availability is really good. And as I said, even now you can buy spare parts for discontinued fairphone models from ebay and other 3rd parties.

Even if you don’t have the need for spare parts, don’t forget that they deliver security updates longer than any other manufacturer that I’ve heard of. So longevity is not just about the hardware.

EDIT: Also, they just newly stopped selling fairphone 3 spare parts. That’s 7 full years of stocking parts. Not bad IMO. And you can probably still find them in stock at resellers. I see display modules on ebay (from china) and at least one german eshop

While I understand the hate and also somewhat agree with it, there is no denying that it can be useful for some things. If those moments of usefulness are worth the damage to society and environment? Absolutely not. I am however guilty of using it anyway to cut research time ten or twenty times for a few particular use cases.

I mainly use it for comparing products, and finding tools/products that fit my needs (sustainability/longevity/value/complexity/learning curve/beginner friendliness). I find it to be really time saving for this particulqr purpose. Customer service agents should be forgotten by history ASAP. EDIT: customer service AI agents, is what I meant

You reeeeally downplay Smörgåstårta (pinnacle of any scandinavian festivity food imo) with this description. You have white bread with layered savory fillings - this is correct. But the contents should be like 40% shrimp, in what you call a Skagenröra or similar. And sallad leafs, cucumber slices, cold smoked salmon (very important), lemon slices and tomato. Lots of dill as well.

I have a similar story, but in response to their action against RIF, i just started lurking old.reddit without an account (as matter of principle, I stopped using my account). Now I’ve finally made the switch, but am having trouble navigating here. What are your fav communities on lemmy, if I may ask? Honestly quite happy that they removed my access to reddit, as now I can participate in dedicated forums like in the internet of old, before the massive internet hubs AKA reddit, insta, fb etc :)
