Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Broadly speaking, what is your current take on AI?
3·6 days agoCurrently? Frank Herbert
Emojis are only something kids and teenagers can use, because they are stylized in an infantile way and so express very strong emotions that you just don’t have any more as an adult.
So the only adults that use them are people who either have arrested development or trying to self-infantilize, where neither is really suited for 18+ online discussion boards.
So the only time you’ll really see emoji’s being used here is when they’re using sarcastically or for comedic effect, because they do work for that since they portray emotions that are exaggerated.
Otherwise it sticks out like if your dad who’s a lawyer wore a pikachu cap to work.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do Germans have a long convoluted word for when somebody asks something and you first say "What?" but then immediately answer their question anyway as if your mouth was quicker than your brain?
61·6 days agoNo but they do have a word for asking about it
A dastardly sort of fellow
Just get a bad wife, won’t even have to do anything yourself
Open relationships are objectively bad for healthy mature people who prize a connection and long-term loving relationship.
However, they are a lot easier for people who prefer to not go deep, who don’t want to work on themselves, and who want to imagine they’re doing something extra “enlightened” or detached. It’s basically something you do out of ego and self-convenience, which is the antithesis of love.
If you’re serious about this life, find one person and go deep with them. Experience the desperation of not always getting what you want, not always being able to have your needs met, not just being able to go to a different person when it gets hard or when you feel deprived.
Like Jung says nobody grows until they reach a problem they can’t solve. Real love relationships are like that; you are eventually tasked with not just loving your own preferences mirrored in another person, which is pure selfishness, but learning to love beyond your own preferences, loving beyond getting what you want; loving just to love. This is the only way a person can learn unconditional love, even having children cannot teach you that because since they are “yours” the condition is always there that they an extension of your own genes. And loving yourself is easy.
You eat food and then you notice how you feel afterwards, that’s the only way. People are very, very different genetically, and while studies show you the average, people can be very unique in what food their bodies does well at digesting.
You eat something and you feel heavy, sluggish, tired afterwards? You either ate too much, or something not good for you, or both.
You eat something and you feel like you didn’t really get any nutrition from it and you can just keep eating and you still won’t get satisfied? You’re probably eating junk not because your body wants it, but because you’re trying to avoid some emotions, and so on.
Awareness is king, as always, you cannot adhere to a fixed system as a living organism; you must actually use your senses in each moment.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•You're on a date and it's going well. You get to choose, where do you go for dinner?
2·9 days agoPerfect dinner spot: isolated enough that no one can hear you, open enough that you can have a look at a street or something with people going on, so you have something to talk about. But that’s more of a date for me and my partner, because we already know each other.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If there was a flaw in your reason for being what would it be?
1·10 days agoThat shouldn’t need to be said, it should be on the forefront of everyone’s mind living in these times.
I don’t know what that means, but what I have described is what our scientific research tells about our senses and our brain.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If there was a flaw in your reason for being what would it be?
1·10 days agoOf course it’s flawed, it’s a terrible dystopia that forces people to live that way or die.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How important is it to a religion that their creator god be living?
2·10 days agoMany religions seem very puritan, so I don’t think they need to know that their god is ‘living’. He can be just kinda boring, a bit of a shut-in I guess. Might even suit them better.
Your brain simulates reality for you, so there is no difference.
You’ve never had any contact with the real, physical world, and you never can have.
It’s all an interpretation.
That’s why you can get as invested into real life, as you can into a game, as you can into a story you thought up in your head.
Humans have a very tenuous grasp on reality because there is no such thing as reality for us.
