Prior to late 2012, it was possible to make someone a moderator of a subreddit without their consent, which was sometimes done as a joke or harassment. That’s why spez was briefly a moderator of r/jailbait.

I’m reminded of the TSA planning in 2013 to allow small knives to harmonize its rules with Europe and Canada. The flight attendant union objected, and the rule change was rolled back.
On one hand, there’s nowhere to run on a plane, and people have been behaving unusually badly of late. On the other hand, the chance of arrest and prosecution following a violent act on a plane is 100%, and unlike most public settings, bystanders will usually intervene.

Part of my underlying assumption is that the the passenger screening process in the USA is as much theater as it is security, so a more relaxed process for everyone would be the best outcome. Creating a two-tier system so that the people most likely to push for the best outcome aren’t motivated to do so is therefore bad.
If my assumption is wrong, then it might be dangerous to relax the process for everyone.

They’re definitely not going to run out of oxygen. They might experience mild symptoms from elevated carbon dioxide or allergens.

Instances subject to the legal systems of jurisdictions with age verification laws probably need the feature to exist to continue operating legally.
I don’t think the current structure of any of those laws would require instances to demand verification from other instances, and any instance operator who did such a thing would be socially unacceptable to the current population of the fediverse.

Are you no longer against it, or are you against it but willing to do it anyway for convenience?

Senators often fly commercial. If the security process is too onerous for them, it will change.

This is obviously a political move, but I dislike these programs. The frequent travelers who use them to pay for less abusive treatment from the government might otherwise advocate for everyone to receive less abusive treatment from the government.

Electric shocks for behavior merely deemed undesirable or noncompliant are barbaric.
I could imagine them being justified to prevent self-injury when other options have been exhausted. Perhaps they’re preferable to constant restraint or sedation.

(“Linux” here as in “GNU/Linux”, as opposed to “the Linux kernel”, which Android phones also use.)
I feel compelled to point out that PostmarketOS, one of the popular Linux phone options is not, in fact GNU. It’s based on musl and BusyBox, not glibc and GNU utils.
I must also point out that he did not work at Reddit between 2009 and 2015.
I’m not going to try to talk you out of hating spez, but maybe try hating him for something he actually did.
