Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do Americans really only shit once a week?English
2·15 hours agoDo you ever stop to think that maybe you’re being lied to? Where was that part of the process?
I think the word ‘slop’ has really been overused at this point. It’s dead to me.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is everyone doing to survive this food inflation?English
4·2 days agoMine is, just buy cheap food with what you can and moderate it.
I know a lot of people will recommend cooking and baking. But, what people aren’t talking enough of, is that it could take a lot of materials to get recipes done right. And those materials required could be expensive to gather. And once you’re done cooking said meal, you only have the materials to usually make that meal and you’ve got nothing else to lean on that you want to eat readily without cooking.
So what you ideally would want to do is set a budget and try to think to yourself as to what you’re comfortable with compromising, then just work up to that budget between what you want to cook and what you want readily there to eat.
I hate it.
I think gambling has tainted sports and is the epitome of corruption to the core. It’s very ironic that a baseball player by the name of Pete Rose, got a lifetime MLB ban for gambling, yet give it 20 some odd years later and Draft Kings is promoted which is gambling.
It fuels addiction, it makes people throw away anything they could that they could bet with, on the off chance, which is narrow, of winning it big.
It’s why I hate Las Vegas entirely, I hated it when poker games were nationally broadcast for a while at one point and so on.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Be honest: Do you still use mainstream social media?English
2·3 days agoDiscord is my mainstay for direct communication, Facebook is because a lot of my friends are stubborn as hell to move on from it. Reddit has me permabanned.
That’s basically it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•I used to love computing as a hobby, but now it feels like it's a source of evil in the world, how have you dealt with this?English
4·3 days agoI’ve been online for like, too long to see it decay and rot into the form it has been turned into. My only regret is that I didn’t embrace the early days or the first 15 years I was online for. Tack on 15 more years and I got to watch, albeit slowly, the corrosion take form.
Everywhere I’ve been to is either gone or transformed into a shallow representation of its former self. Everyone I know and knew are growing up and the times we had can’t be replicated anymore or enjoyed similarly. Features are being shoved in that nobody asked for but everyone uses without question. Optimization has taken a back seat, where everything breaks down in a moment’s notice as we’re given empty promises and apologies for it.
The spirit of community has fallen to tribalism and hivemindedness where simply being nuanced is just simply unacceptable anymore. It’s like you MUST pick a side, you MUST say the right opinions, you MUST express yourself justly or you’re whatever the side thinks you are. There is no room for critical thinking.
And every other day, I ask myself “what the fuck am I even doing anymore?” when it comes to being online. I’m just coming online for no other reason than just to check things and waste clicks. Because I’m not enjoying my time anywhere without being constantly reminded about the things I’ve watched the internet become for so long.
There was someone I knew, that when her gaming PC broke down 2 years ago, she decided that it was it for her. She wasn’t tech savvy, she wasn’t glued to the net or computers as much. She’ll use something until it breaks before she decides whether to continue. And when that computer died, she shrugged and decided to move on living as simple as she can be.
I don’t think I’ll go that route when my PC dies, I’ll still have a use for it. But if the internet becomes too expensive or it just plainly isn’t serving its purpose to me as it once did completely, I’ll probably consider it a good run well-lived.
I’m revisiting a project where, I’m trying to subtract vocals off of an old radio talk show I still listen to religiously. They use techno music from DI.FM in the 2000s and the reason I still listen to the episodes at all is because of what music is used. It’s a hard project to do because, first off, I have to find something to remove ‘vocals’ (in other words, the hosts talking in the show) and not only that, it is mostly mono. That’s why it’s difficult to do.
And someone before, when I was last on the Lemmy platform, was kind enough to DM me and ask if I sent audio snippets of the show so he can identify what tracks that was played. Since he claimed he had some archive of many tracks from that period. Problem is, I didn’t go through with it because this show would be considered incredibly politically incorrect, moreso by today’s standards and I don’t want to go through the trouble of being asked about ‘what the fuck is wrong with you’ in regards to the content.
Like, I’d like to stop listening to it too, least at the rate I’m listening it. But until I have those episodes where the talking is removed, only then will I begin trying to splice and upload pieces to see what people can identify for me.
