I’ve been downvoted to hell and back (I’m an anti-imperialist, anti-Western supremacy monotheist that believes in objective reality and that some decisions are objectively more or less moral than others, so it’s just expected 🤷) but I doubt it’s ever been some sort of coordinated effort and not just what happens when one reads the truth/different POVs that oppose and weaken one’s idiosyncrasies but is too cowardly and/or stupid to process it, so all one can do is have an emotional tantrum in the form of a downvote.

Because they don’t have the intellectual capacity and/or the courage to engage with what you’ve said in earnest, since it might mean they’d have to agree with you and admit they were wrong (and these are not wise people who understand admitting you’re wrong is the path to being right). They’d rather just “e-boo” you without any more explanation and hope the other stupid cowards do the same and there we go, we were right all along because of numbers! Morons, lol, spineless morons.

An empty land with American military bases and soldiers? They’d just raze it, lol, and nothing of value would be lost. Or are you suggesting that America, who has historically seen Taiwan as their “unsinkable aircraft carrier” and has used the island to coerce China the same way it’s used Israel in the Middle East, should just freely concede the territory? I mean, ideally, sure, but I highly doubt it. I can be done, and probably will be, but not for free.

This is just the result of a power vacuum/imbalance left by the declining American empire. And there are many more players (the rich af Gulf countries, mainly SA and the UAE, India, Turkey) and some of them are not even nations like banking institutions, technocrats and capitalist oligarchs, and asset management firms, for example.

If I may, I think the reality of things is more like this: the world has realized that the American empire and its vassals can no longer unilaterally make the rules and force every other nation to do their bidding or face the consequences, things have changed both in the US (it’s no longer the MIC and banks deciding the direction of the country but now there are multiple conflicting groups of interest; corruption has done its thing and every part of the American empire suffers from theft at every level, the military included) and in the world as a whole and the balance of power has shifted. So, since we’re firmly in a post-American hegemony era, all that has to be decided is how this transition will be managed and what America’s new role will be in this new world. Before, the whole world belonged de facto to the West, which means ultimately America, now different nodes of power have arisen and power will be distributed between them.

Same, but I’m not gigantic and I also love to “argue” IRL. It’s easier IRL too (as a non gigantic guy, ofc 😅), because people can feel your good vibes and friendly disposition and will more comfortably engage even through disagreements.

That’s not how the world works, though, we can’t just snap our fingers and make everyone think thoroughly and empathetically before they say something. One will or won’t learn to better handle words, and that’s entirely for one’s wellbeing, so I think it’s better to try to do so (and hope you don’t have to deal with too many bullies, regardless).

Eh, more or less skilled, sure, but “unskilled” is never accurate. I say this as someone who’s very clumsy by nature and takes forever to do manual tasks that others won’t struggle as much with. I know that there’s a lower floor of skill (the floor I inhabit 😭), so they can’t just be doing “unskilled” tasks.

I can’t post the whole Qur’an (and, as a message from the Divine, it’s hard to call it “wisdom”, it’s a bit more uhh axiomatic than that), and I won’t post the entirety of Ecclesiastes (but if you’re in a moment of existential questioning, I think reading it would be very helpful!), but I will post a passage from the NT, Matthew 25-34, because it might be useful to some of you as it has been to me (and my somewhat anxious wife likes it too!).

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. “Skilled” and “unskilled” work? I reject this Americanism.

The “spirit” of evolution? Sure, but the whole point is that now we know there was planning behind it, direction (as there are instructions in the loading screen), and planning requires a mind. 👍

I try (everything is progress towards a known unreachable ideal character) to live a righteous life while believing in God and the Day of Judgment with excitement, not fear (whilst still keeping in mind my share of this world). In Kierkegaard’s terms: I’ve left the aesthetic stage, walked through the ethical stage and I leapt into the religious stage, and God caught me. Once you do that, I’ve found that the rest comes by itself, and your fulfilment is mostly guaranteed (this is still just my personal experience though).

I agree (those hard categories are for God, only He truly knows, only He pronounces himself finally on it) but at some point you have to make a decision, because in your personal life you will trust and stay away from people based on that judgement. Basically, people cross a threshold one way or another, where that lies is somewhat different from everyone (in intensity not direction) but not by much.

Racism is the opposite though: regardless of your deeds, you’re good or bad if you’re part of my personally accepted tribes.

And whether they think themselves as bad when it’s warranted or not is inconsequential. Of course their nasty, vicious deeds are beautiful in their eyes, they’ve taken a million steps away from virtue, they can’t recognise it and if they did they’d have to push away those thoughts or become suicidally regretful.

Do you believe in free will btw? Or is this also part of the equation in your thinking, that people don’t really make any decisions so how can we judge them?

Yeah but you’re not raping and murdering and lying and scamming so perhaps it wouldn’t be a very productive society but at least we’d be safe with a society of yous. 🤷😁
