Tiktok is not a Chinese propaganda like fb, twitter, and reddit “aren’t” US propaganda.
A mega addictive social media platform with a world wide audience would not be able to operate independently without its state wanting to exploit that reach.
I hate this oversimplification and draging fediverse through the mud. There are literally tankie, zionist, and some right wing instances going at each other regularly in lemmy.
In any other platform, users would be banned or just don’t speak up at all because of inherent threat of being seen as an outcast and that would be the end of it.
For all the time I’ve been on the internet, I’ve never seen this level of anti censorship without going into the dark corners of the internet.
It was all “west good, others savages” before. It’s been amazing what the fediverse has unlocked.
You can peddle this echo chamber bullshit all day, but i don t buy it. I know there are attempts at censorship in fediverse too but theres always a counter argument in the other instances calling them out without a threat of getting banned and that’s beautiful. Even when instances ban users and delete posts, some of it lingers on other instances for proof.
