Still with no ideas on how to be profitable, yet they’re supposedly one of the most valuable companies in the world. Capitalism makes no sense

Despite Georgia being a sun-soaked state and the Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE) being less for solar (and wind) than gas turbines, these assholes will be adding double the amount of natural gas generation (https://www.georgiapower.com/about/energy/plants.html) than is still deployed in Georgia. I don’t know how you can get more dystopian than that, buy hey, it’s the United States, which has a buffoon for a leader and no plans to stop global warming — “drill baby drill”.
Solar and wind needs buffers to be dispatchable. Which is why gas.
Sounds sustainable /s
Imagine if that money had been spent on building out renewables instead
Renewables are being installed at a great pace… Would have been much better to use this money elsewhere
Their pace has been slowed down greatly under the Trump administration.
Source??? Cause every link I find shows installs continuing to grow.
Here you go though https://www.eia.gov/renewable/reports.php#/T1099
I would say it shows total installed sources had stalled but renewables continue to grow
Solar installs are increasing because they’re the most economical means for power generation when substantial cheap land is available, but major wind projects have been cancelled at the behest of the Trump administration.
If Trump had not been elected, renewables would be growing even faster.
Your first comment is a bit disingenuous. Renewables are being installed at a record pace, solar is being installed at a record pace and for most of the country solar makes the most sense as we have large amounts of cheap land but a few wind projects get cancelled and you try to imply Trump has had some sort of disastrous effect on the industry. If wind is more expensive then solar and solar is a better fit and the government is subsidizing those projects they should be cancelled and the money should go else where. But a couple cancelled wind projects isn’t a big deal. Perhaps you just don’t like Trump which in that case just say it.
Edit: I read your comment history and I hit the nail clearly on the head… Just say what you wanna say lol
Given that the fossil fuel industry receives an annual subsidy of $35 billion (not including the negative externalities that the industry is allowed to get away with), denying comparable subsidies to renewable energy projects encourages investors to invest in fossil fuels instead, stunting renewable energy growth and harming the environment in the process.
