Cyclosporiasis is on the rise in the US but the information on how to handle the parasite is very contradictory. Literally heard on the radio this morning that in order to kill Cyclospora cayetanensis, you have to boil your produce but the news is saying something else.
Please be safe everyone.

The local news said Cyclosporiasis is treated with an antibiotic.
Uh, how is a parasite treated with an antibiotic again?
Well, many people Incorrectly refer to all anti-(parasite, fungal, viral and bacterial/biotic) as the same thing, rather than as anti-infective or anti-microbial as is more correct for a broad term.
At least we aren’t using the Anthelmintic (worm killer, derived from a bacterial neurotoxin) ivermectin to treat a virus, wich has no nervous system.
What’s your confusion? Antibiotics are a pretty common treatment for some types of parasites, including single-celled organisms like the one that causes cyclosporiasis.
Actually not. This is a protozoa. Most anti-bacterials won’t work.
The treatment is Septra, but only in extreme cases.
Cause the news is stupid
