The democratic structure doesn’t appear democratic, the aforementioned policies are typically unpopular in other countries, and there are countless of expats who tell horror stories. I acknowledge that there is an incentive for them to make shit up, but I don’t know how to find neutral sources.

but I don’t know how to find neutral sources.

Unless you have investigated a problem, you will be deprived of the right to speak on it. Isn’t that too harsh? Not in the least. When you have not probed into a problem, into the present facts and its past history, and know nothing of its essentials, whatever you say about it will undoubtedly be nonsense. Talking nonsense solves no problems, as everyone knows, so why is it unjust to deprive you of the right to speak? Quite a few comrades always keep their eyes shut and talk nonsense, and for a Communist that is disgraceful. How can a Communist keep his eyes shut and talk nonsense?

      It won’t do!

      It won’t do!

      You must investigate!

      You must not talk nonsense!

What do you mean by this?

I’m still learning about it, but it seems to be based, similar to the USSR and China, in trust that the government will take into consideration the opinion of the masses, as opposed to a direct lever of control.

        Expats like Yeonmi Park?

I have seen her speak, and she is obviously pulling stories out of her ass. But she is far from the only person with stories of oppression.

Do you think she’s an anomaly? If you think there is veracity to any of these “Kim Jong Un executed my uncle 400 times with an anti aircraft gun” stories, then quit vagueposting and pull one up so we can examine it as evidence. So far everything you’ve responded with is vapor, just a parade of Maybe and I Don’t Know and Some People Are Saying. If you have evidence, pull it out, because right now you’re operating on the level of “I’ve heard that many people are talking about Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction.”

Not all discourse has to be so hostile my guy. It’s ok to have questions, hesitations, and confidence levels in-between 0 and 100. It’s not hard to find testimonies. As I’ve said I genuinely don’t know how to determine which, if any, are unbiased.

The ROK giving money for the testimonies and other financial incentives make literally all testimonies sus. The claims being so extraordinary also means we need extraordinary evidence to believe them, the burden of proof isn’t on the DPRK, since you can’t realistically prove a negative.

There’s nothing extraordinary about a state oppressing it’s people. The existence of a state that doesn’t oppress it’s people should require extraordinary evidence to believe.

You don’t think the haircut stories or the claims of mass enslavement are extraordinary? Do you think everyone would believe these claims of any other country, like Canada or Sweden, without stronger evidence?
