Most Americans believe recent U.S. military action against Iran has gone too far, and many are worried about affording gasoline, according to a new AP-NORC poll.
As the war launched by the U.S. and Israel continues in its fourth week, the survey from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research indicates that while Donald Trump’s approval rating is holding steady, the conflict could be swiftly turning into a major political liability for his Republican administration.
While Trump is deploying more warships and troops to the Middle East, about 59% of Americans say U.S. military action in Iran has been excessive.
Meanwhile, 45% are “extremely” or “very” concerned about being able to afford gas in the next few months, up from 30% in an AP-NORC poll conducted shortly after Trump won reelection with promises that he would improve the economy and lower the cost of living.
~~ has gone too far~~ should never have started. There, I fixed it.
And the main reason attributed to people? “My fuel costs”. Damn. Selfish to the end.
My thoughts exactly
It’s only because they feel it on their wallet
…about 59% of Americans say U.S. military action in Iran has been excessive.
At this point, whenever I see a headline with “most Americans” I read that as ~55%, aka everyone not MAGA.
I think the most frustrating thing to me is that the ONE person I’ve overheard explaining why we “just had to” bomb and kill civilians and children was justifying it with the threat of nuclear bombs because we “can’t trust them” to uphold “Fatwa.” Which is stupid for many reasons that I shouldn’t have to get into: but the one I will is that “sure, we can’t trust our enemy, so let’s kill the civilians we said we were going to protect from that enemy.”
I’m frustrated to see that number ONLY be at 59%.
Yeah! They were shooting passenger aircraft out of the s… oh wait, that was “the good guys”.
Extremely high misinformation levels of Americans to be very concerned almost equally about high gas prices (67%) and denuclearizing Iran (65%). (there’s no breakdown for headline question)
The GOP propaganda is “Gas prices guaranteed to come down after we win”. Both Trump and Satanyahu have declared victory on denuclearization through obliteration. Trump, on Friday, threatened world with a good time to just leave and let world figure out SoH shipping. Declaring victory and leaving is only path to preserving gas prices. A victory for the US would be to negotiate SoH reopening, by compensating Iran, to avoid other countries making peace with Iran individually. That is only point of negotiation.
Polls asks irrelevant stupid questions to mostly misinformed people. Somewhat relevant questions might be what relevant objectives deserve continuing and escalating war. But with the caveat that 3-10 year disruption to global economy will occur through escalation, including very high gas prices.
Of note, there is massive fuckery in oil and gas markets where US markets are depressed relative than the cost of shipping to bring them to other markets. Usual difference with Europe is $4. It has been $12 all week. Asian oil is $60 higher, with usual difference $8. So US markets may be being depressed through manipulation.
