Generic index points. Its in the name (Dow Jones Industrial Index) basically takes the combined value of its component index stocks and divides them by a specific number. The number is calculated and adjusted when companies split or buy back stocks so the indexs keeps consitency.
What are these points? I thought maybe percentage points, but it said over 1000 was only 2.33%

If it were a total of 50,000 and dropped 1,000 that would be a 2% drop.
