AI is bad for all industries. It just regurgitates jumbled up words and phrases. At best it’s a liability which produces sub-human level of work with no regard for morality or consequences, and at worst it will send your company into bankruptcy and ruin your reputation for as long as you live.
There are three valid use cases for AI with few drawbacks:
-
Misinforming a large number of people on social media
-
Flooding online places with slop in order to prevent people from seeing real information, such as covering up political or financial scandals
-
Making funny AI Cover Songs by Quagmire, Peridot, and/or Squidward
For everything else, you will lose more than you gain.
-
What do you mean “we sometimes need it” ?

3·14 days agoYeah, Harris was also promoted by a large group of Imams and other muslim community leaders for being the most welcoming and communicative candidate they’ve ever known.
She would have been a better president than Biden, for sure.

302·14 days agoBiden was way too lenient with Israel, but he very demonstrably kept aid flowing into Gaza and withheld large bomb shipments as Israel closed in on population centers, reportedly yelled at Netanyahu over the phone and was always fighting for a ceasefire which included the terms of hostage release which China vetoed in the UN.
Unfortunately he kept selling all other arms to Israel with emergency powers and his admin vetoed all other ceasefire terms.
Regardless, anybody who truly cares about even a single Palestinian life needs to vote out the GOP by any means necessary.

402·14 days agoI was worried this might happen after Trump was wailing about the Filibuster the other day. If only Dems had more than 48 seats in the last 13 years maybe we could have done something about all this.

33·25 days agoBeing kicked from platforms was for this particular specimen exactly the sort of vindication this user was searching for, by banning him they had acknowledged him and given him content.
The critique itself is the new content, and the copyrighted image is an accessory to that.
Fair Use at its core requires you are creating something and not making copies. Its an integral part of the conversation. Therefor it is heavily implied.
Well obviously printing copies for free is illegal, thats just how antipiracy laws work, but the courts clearly stated even in that link that if IA had made sure the print to copy ratio was 1:1 or that notable changes to make it considerably transformative then it would have been fair use.
Courts look at how the party claiming fair use is using the copyrighted work, and are more likely to find that nonprofit educational and noncommercial uses are fair. This does not mean, however, that all nonprofit education and noncommercial uses are fair and all commercial uses are not fair; instead, courts will balance the purpose and character of the use against the other factors below.
On its own, a noncommercial use is fair use, unless other factors get in the way of that. I will ammend my previous comment to be less absolute.
FALSE, THIS USER ABOVE IS LYING.
ALL TYPES OF NONCOMMERCIAL USE CAN ALSO BE FAIR USE. (Until the judge says otherwise and it doesn’t get overruled).
The post title includes “non-commercial”.
In the USA there is a fair use doctrine/clause to copyright laws which excludes noncommercial works. This also stems from the English common law’s fair dealings doctrine.
17 U.S. Code § 107 - Limitations on exclusive rights: Fair use
Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include—
(1) the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
(2) the nature of the copyrighted work;
(3) the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and
(4) the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.
The fact that a work is unpublished shall not itself bar a finding of fair use if such finding is made upon consideration of all the above factors.
(Pub. L. 94–553, title I, § 101, Oct. 19, 1976, 90 Stat. 2546; Pub. L. 101–650, title VI, § 607, Dec. 1, 1990, 104 Stat. 5132; Pub. L. 102–492, Oct. 24, 1992, 106 Stat. 3145.)That said, Judges generally have the final say and have decided cases wildly differently from each other in either direction in the past on what is and is not copyright infringement.

1·1 month agoIt’s still relevant because there are only 20 GOP seats total for reelection in 2026, and we need 67 to remove Trump, so even though he’s here until 2028 we need his vote, too.

News@lemmy.world•‘In no way do we trust America’: Iranians react to two-week ceasefireEnglish
93·1 month agoThe vote histories show a very clear line of separation of good and evil. Things are as bad as they are now because the USA has had 48 or less DNC senators for over 13 years and counting.
Do you really believe that Obama would have invaded Iraq after 9/11, that Biden would be attacking Iran, tariffing every country, and refusing to aid Ukraine? If so, you’re a fool of the highest order.
Kamala Harris’ plan to tax the rich would have been a huge turning point towards real progress in the USA.

No internet.
I’m normally very progressive, but I think we’ve collected enough data to know for sure that the internet has no good outcomes on children’s development. Furthermore, I don’t want devices spying on children, so any device that eventually connects to the internet is also a nono unless it’s been given an open source operating system and software or completely lacks the ability to record video, audio, or scan for additional devices.
